'The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love..." Galatians 5:6

River of Life on the Youth page!

Founded on the basic truth of Galatians 5:6, River of Life is a series of events held each summer aimed at enabling youth and adults, from many different churches, to come together to express the love of Jesus Christ by ministering to the people of a particular community through exterior home repairs and improvements. River of Life is also committed to the conversion and discipling of each participant into a passionate devotion to Jesus Christ and the understanding that Christianity is a life of ministry to others, especially to those in need. River of Life is open to all youth and adults age 6th grade and above. In addition to being the hands and feet of Christ for three days, each night offers crazy fun, awesome speakers and most excellent worship! You don't want to miss it!!

This will be the 11th consecutive year that Lithia Springs UMC will hosted this event and each year, it grows in function and therefore it needs just a little bit more. While the workers that come to participate are predominantly youth groups and adult leaders, it is the responsibility of our church to prepare for them a place to come. In a mission event, there are two groups of people needed (and sometimes these groups overlap). One group, is the group of people who commit to the actual tasks to be performed, such as building handicap ramps or painting. The other group of people, are the people who provide the other group with a place to stay, food to eat and tools to do their jobs. Both groups have equal importance and necessity and therefore are all missionaries.

It is a big job and it does take many people, and all of us here at Lithia Springs UMC have something to offer. Listed below are areas that we are looking for volunteers. If you would be interested in contributing your time and/or supplies for Summer 2007, please contact Destin Jacobus at 770-948-5429 or email at lsumcyouth@gmail.com.

*Preparation - We need volunteers to help organize and be behind the scenes prior to and during River of Life.

*Participate-Youth, 6th to 12th Grade - You have never had so much fun! Ask any of our fellow youth who have participated for the last few years; River of Life is nothing but a blast! You can Paint, Roof or Build.

*Participate-Little River, Children, Kindergarten to 5th Grade - The Children's version of River of Life.

*Lead or work a team!-Adults - Are you skilled or unskilled but willing? We need adults to lead work teams that range in task from yard work to painting to building and roofing. It sounds like work, but it is loads and loads and loads of fun. You can Paint, Roof or Build.

*Help with the food! - We need volunteers who will be able to prepare dishes, to serve, to help clean up after each meal and to help prepare for the next meal.

*Donate tools for use at work sites - There is always a demand of various tools that are needed for each worksite and a shortage of tools to go around. We need people to donate various tools, to be returned after the event is over.

*Volunteer to organize tools for disbursement and to receive back in - On Wednesday evening, as the workers arrive, all of the tools will be pooled together for disbursement. We need a few people to volunteer to organize tools for easy disbursement. These volunteers will also be responsible for receiving the tools back in Saturday evening and ensuring all donated tools are returned to their proper owner.

*Volunteer for Little River- We need adults to help with Little River with the children. Days include: twice a day bible study, crafts, swim party & tons of fun!

*Other - Chaperones at hotel, Errand Runner & Night Time Activities.

What to bring: Work Clothes, Work Gloves, Hammer, Paint Brush, Plastic Paint Bucket, Bug Repellant, Sun Screen, Shorts and T-shirts for evening activities.
